Box Score CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts - The Black Bears were able to keep the score close against conference powerhouse Boston College, but in the end could not come up with the final equalizing goal as they fall to 0-1-0 in conference play, despite
Carly Jackson's 42 saves and
Kristin Gilmour's first goal of the season.
Boston College started off the scoring 3:52 into the first period on the power play as Kristyn Capizzano took advantage of the misdirection that left
Carly Jackson out of position, unable to see the puck until it was too late, as Capizzano sniped it straight on to give BC a 1-0 lead which would last into the first intermission.
All of the scoring in the second period happened within the first minute of play as a 5-on-3 advantage for BC ended, and the returning of two players led to a fast break for Maine 15 seconds into the period. The fast break ended with
Kristin Gilmour scoring her 5th career goal, assisted by
Brooke Stacey. The game was tied 1-1. BC immediately answered back with a fast break of their own as Caitrin Lonergan intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and got a 1-on-1 with
Carly Jackson in which Caitrin came out on top. The goal coming 32 seconds into the period put BC back up 2-1.
That fast break goal would be the last bit of scoring in the game as BC would defend 4 Maine power plays in the final 2 periods, but Maine could not get the equalizing goal and end up falling to 1-4-0 on the season; BC gets their first win and improves to 1-1-1.
Carly Jackson saved 42 of 44 shots faced with a .955 save percentage, while BC Goaltender Katie Burt saved 19 of 20 for a .950 save percentage; her record is now 1-1-1.Â
The two teams will be back at it again Sunday afternoon at 2pm at Conte Forum.
