ORONO, Maine - The Black Bears Women's Soccer team returned home after a 2 game road trip to face the Hartford Hawks, who came in matching the Black Bears with a 2-1-0 conference record.
Maine got off to a strong start controlling play and getting the first 3 shots of the game, but Hartford bounced right back and ended up striking first 26:50 into the first half, when Sierra Stone settled a pass outside the box, and took a long shot which fooled Maine goalkeeper
Samantha Cobotic, who misjudged the angle and couldn't recover in time as the ball floated over her head into the goal.Â
About 5 minutes later 31:35 into the half Kaila Lozada settled a pass from Bridgette Alexander, in a similar position and took a similar shot that got over Cobotic in the same fashion as Stone's goal, and Hartford took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The second half remained scoreless as shots were fairly even at 5-4 in Hartford's favor, and Maine would take 4 corner kicks in the half, but they could not find their way onto the scoreboard and the game would end with Hartford shutting out Maine 2-0.
Jessica Jurg got her 5th shutout of the season for Hartford saving all 3 shots on net with her overall record now 9-4-0; Cobotic for Maine finished with 6 saves on 8 shots on goal, her record falls to 2-2-0.
Maine is back on the road this weekend to face Binghamton on Sunday, October 9th at 12pm.
