Women's Hockey to Host Vermont in Trick'N'Cheer Event

The Sunday matinee game includes halloween events for fans for all ages.

ORONO, Maine - Coming off a tough loss at Providence on Friday, the Black Bears look to bounce back at home against Vermont in a special halloween themed Trick'N'Cheer event, just a day before Halloween.

TRICK'N'CHEER 

With this game falling on the day before Halloween, the Black Bears would like to invite fans to the Alfond for "Trick'N'Cheer", with halloween themed events throughout the game for both UMaine students and other young fans alike, including costume contests, and trick-or-treating around the arena! Winners of the costume contests will receive Maine game jerseys. Come out to celebrate Trick'N'Cheer and support your University of Maine Black Bears!


 

SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS:

Vermont comes into this game off a loss to New Hampshire 4-2 on Friday evening, Vermont and Maine are 2 of 3 teams in the young Hockey East season with only 2 points, Maine with a 1-4-0 record, Vermont with a 1-1-0 record.

Vermont comes into this game with an overall record of 2-4-1, and after the loss to UNH an even 1-1-0 in conference after defeating #9 BU early in October.

The Catamounts are led by Freshman Forward Ève-Audrey Picard, who leads the team in points with 7 and goals with 4. The team's assist leader is Sophomore Forward Saana Valkama, who has a team-high 5 assists, and a goal to bring her point total to 6. Senior Forward Victoria Andrea's, Junior Forward Mackenzie MacNeil, and Sophomore Forward Alyssa Gorecki also have chipped in with 4 points each.

In net Vermont has started all 3 of their goalies at least once this year. Sophomore Melissa Black has started 4 of their 7 games this season, she has a 1-2-1 record with 3.25 goals allowed per game, and a save percentage of .908. Senior Madison Litchfield has appeared in 3 games but has started 2, with a 1-1-0 record, 1.15 goals allowed per game, and .951 save percentage. Finally, Freshman Sydney Scobee has started 1 game for Vermont with a 0-1-0 record, .900 save percentage, and 3 goals allowed.

The Black Bears are coming off a tough 3-2 loss against Providence Friday evening despite having a 2 goal leading entering the third. The Black Bears look to bounce back from that loss and are 2-2-0 at home this season.

The Black Bears are led by Freshman Forward Tereza Vanišová, who leads the team in points with 7 and goals with 4. She has 3 assists, two of which came in Maine's win over BC. Second in points and team leader in assists is Freshman Forward Vendula Pribylová, who scored her first career goal against BC with less than a minute left to seal the victory for Maine. She has 5 points and a team-high 4 assists. Senior Forward Morgan Sakundiak has also chipped in with 3 goals so far this season, as well as Junior Forward Catherine Tufts with 3 goals, 2 of them coming against Providence on Friday.

In net, the Black Bears have relied on Freshman Carly Jackson in 6 starts this season; she has a record of 1-6-0, getting her first career win as she stopped 28 shots against BC. She has a save percentage this year of .910 and a goals against average of 2.76. The Black Bears have also seen work from Senior Mariah Fujimagary, who has a 1-1-0 record, a .822 save percentage, and a 4.39 goals against average.

The game takes place Sunday, October 30th at 2pm at Alfond Arena.
