Box Score ORONO, Maine -- Maine field hockey falls to America East rival UAlbany 2-0 Friday afternoon. In a defensive battle that only saw 12 shots all game, the Great Danes scored one goal in each half to put them over the top.
Danielle Aviani led all Black Bears with three shots on goal, including one opportunity that nearly crossed the line.
With the loss, Maine falls to 11-6 on the year and 4-2 in conference play, while UAlbany improves to 11-5 and 5-1 in America East play.
The Great Danes scored the first goal of the game 31:45 in, Dana Bozek set up Molly Mariano to the left side of Maine goalie
Emily Corbett to give UAlbany a 1-0 lead.
Maine outshot the Great Danes 3-2 in the first half and also held the advantage on penalty corners, 1-0.
Emma Cochran started in goal for Maine in the second half.
UAlbany received a penalty corner, three minutes into the second half and Paula Heuser set up Bozek for the goal as the Great Danes took a 2-0 lead.
The second half featured five cards, three for UAlbany and two for Maine.
With less than four minutes remaining, the Black Bears pulled Cochran for the extra attacker, but were unable to push across a goal.
Maine returns to action next week as they host rival UNH on Friday, Oct. 28 at 3:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
