Women's Soccer Blanked in Conference Play by UMBC 3-0

Maine suffers its first loss in America East play.

Box Score BALTIMORE, Maryland - The Black Bears traveled to UMBC Sunday afternoon to try and improve to 3-0 in conference play against UMBC only to lose to the Retreivers 3-0.

The first half was scoreless as both teams struggled to get anything going offensively; although Maine outshot UMBC 7-1 in the half only 3 of Maine's shots were on net, all saved by UMBC goalkeeper Leah Roth. 

In the second UMBC scored their first goal 53:14 into the game as Alexa Quaranta crossed the ball into the box and Wren Aye knocked it in with a header. In the 70th minute UMBC struck again as the ball was pass around the box by Alexa and Preslie Quaranta and eventually out to Angela Kuhn who shot it in from outside the box. UMBC led 2-0.

Just 8 minutes later Preslie Quaranta crossed the ball into the box and ended up finding it's way past Maine goalkeeper Samantha Cobotic, giving UMBC the final score of 3-0. 

Cobotic's record falls to 2-1-0 along with Maine's conference record. She saved 1 of 4 shots on net. For UMBC Leah Roth saved all 6 shots on net from Maine to get the shutout, her record is now 5-7-0.

Maine returns home to play Hartford at Mahaney Diamond, Thursday October at 6pm.
