Box Score ORONO, Maine – Maine field hockey fell to Albany 3-1 Sunday afternoon. Maine is currently 8-4 on the season and 1-1 in America East play, while Albany is 7-4 on the season and 2-0 in the conference.
Freshman
Brianna Ricker scored the only goal for the Black Bears on the day, reigning America East midfielder of the year Paula Heuser scored two goals.
Emma Cochran started in goal for Maine and Maxi Primus for Albany.
Twenty minutes of the first half was scoreless for both teams, Paula Heuser broke the tie with her ninth goal of the season to give Albany a 1-0 lead.
11 minutes later, just before the end of the half, Heuser struck again for an unassisted goal to give the Great Danes a 2-0 advantage just before halftime. Albany out shot Maine eight to three in the first half, they also held the advantage on corners, eight to one.
Emily Corbett started in second half for Maine.
20 minutes into the second half, Molly Mariano gave Albany their third unanswered goal of the game as Albany took a 3-0 lead.
Maine scored their lone goal of the game, four minutes later, off of a rebound by
Brianna Ricker as the Black Bears cut into the Albany lead 3-1.
Shots were even in the second half, five to five. Albany held the advantage on shots in the game 13-8, they also held an advantage on corners 11-2.
Maine returns to action next weekend as they travel to Durham to take on America East rival, UNH October 9 at 1:00 p.m.
