PREVIEW: Maine hosts #6 Quinnipiac to open 2026-27 season

Maine women's hockey will host #6 Quinnipiac on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26.
ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will open up play this weekend when it hosts #6 Quinnipiac for a pair of games to open the 2026-27 season.
The Black Bears and Bobcats will square off on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 at Alfond Arena, with puck drop set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday, with both contests on ESPN+.

ABOUT QUINNIPIAC
• Quinnipiac opens the season as the sixth ranked team in the country in the USCHO preseason poll
• Quinnipiac returns their leading goal scorer Kahlen Lamarche who tallied 42 goals in 41 games last season for the Bobcats, leading nation in goals scored last season
• Quinnipiac finished the 2025-26 season 29-9-3, winning the ECAC Championship and making the NCAA Tournament where they fell to #1 Wisconsin in the second round
WHAT'S BACK FOR THE BLACK BEARS
• The Black Bears return 21 members of last seasons roster, including all of the top five point scorers from last season
• The Black Bears also return both double digit goal scorers from last season, Isabelle Michaud (11) and Stephanie Jacob (10)
• Kiia Lahtinen returns as a mainstay between the pipes for the Black Bears after starting all 33 games she played in and 33 of 37 total contests. Lahtinen posted a 12-16-4 record with four shutouts, her season also included a 2.40 goals against average and a .923 save percentage
NEW FACES
• The Black Bears added six new student athletes, including four forwards, one defenseman, and one goaltender
• Oda Bruland Austefjord, Stella Pittis, Julie Jebousková, Tiani Makokis, and Ilsa Brunner join lone transfer Charlotte Wensley (Rensselaer, NCAA)
UP NEXT
• The Black Bears will host St. Lawrence next week for a pair of games on Thursday, Oct. 1 and Friday Oct. 2 at Alfond Arena.
