ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine student-athletes posted impressive marks for the 2026 spring semester as all 17 varsity programs achieved cumulative team grade point averages of 3.0 or better for the term for only the second time since records have been kept.

Additionally, 10 of the programs achieved marks of 3.5 or higher.

Overall, the Black Bears posted a 3.47 department GPA for the fall term.

The women's soccer team led all programs with a department high 3.84 GPA for the term, followed by women's basketball (3.79), field hockey (3.77), and men's hockey which achieved its highest-ever spring GPA at 3.75.

Additionally, women's cross country (3.65), women's indoor (3.63) and outdoor (3.63) track & field, softball (3.61), women's swim & dive (3.61), and women's ice hockey (3.53) each bested the 3.5 mark.

In addition to men's hockey, the football program secured its highest-ever spring GPA with a mark of 3.10.

Individually, 347 out of the total 421 student-athletes qualified as UMaine scholar-athletes with GPAs of 3.0 or better in the term. Out of the 344, 170 qualified as UMaine Presidential Scholar-Athletes with a 3.75 or better GPA.

Seventy-three student-athletes achieved perfect 4.00 GPAs for the spring term.
