Great Danes nip Black Bears in conference action

Maine dropped two contests on Friday to UAlbany.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine softball team dropped two America East contests to UAlbany on Friday at the Pierre & Catherine Labat Softball Complex.

How it Happened
  • After the Great Danes took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, the Black Bears responded with two of their own in the bottom of the first when Eviana Robles singled home a pair of runs.
  • UAlbany plated four runs in the top of the second to take a 6-2 and then pushed it out to 8-2 in the top of the fourth.
  • The Black Bears pulled one run back in the bottom of the first on a Kaelyn Larkin solo home run … in the bottom of the seventh, Robles doubled in a run and then scored two batters later but UAlbany held off the comeback for the 8-5 final.

  • The teams played scoreless through the first three frames, with Maine's Ava Zettlemoyer sprinkling two hits over the innings.
  • The Great Danes took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on an infield single.
  • The Black Bears left runners on base in the final four innings, including two each in the sixth and seventh.
Game Notes
  • Maine is now 13-51 in the all-time series with UAlbany.
  • Ava Zettlemoyer started in the circle, throwing all 7.0 innings while giving up five hits and one run.
  • Kaelyn Larkin, Neve Adams and Eviana Robles each tallied hits.
  • Larkin extended her reaching base safely streak to 10 games, marking her second such streak this season of at least 10 games.
