FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The University of Maine softball team played a non-conference doubleheader at Fairfield on Friday afternoon, falling in two close contests at Alumni Softball Field.

How it Happened
- The teams played two scoreless first frames … Annika Shearer doubled for Maine in the top of the first but was stranded on second base.
- The Stags took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly … the lead was extended to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run to left field.
- The Black Bears got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Shearer earned a bases loaded hit by pitch to make it a 3-1 game … Fairfield responded with two runs in the home half of the inning to take a 5-1 lead into the sixth inning and held Maine off the scoreboard over the final two at bats.
- Maine is now 7-2 in the all-time series with Fairfield.
- Alysen Rieth started, throwing 3.0 innings while allowing two runs on four hits … Kyla Brogan tossed 1.0 innings in relief while Ava Zettlemoyer went 1.2 innings.

- Hannah Hipwell kept Fairfield off the board for the first three innings but the Stags were finally able to manufacture a run in the bottom of the fourth.
- An inning later, the Stags made it 2-0 with a single to right field.
- In the top of the sixth, Morgan Pool led off with a double … Maine eventually cut into the deficit three batters later on a Kaelyn Larkin double that made it 2-1.
- Maine is now 7-3 in the all-time series with Fairfield.
- Hannah Hipwell started in the circle, throwing 6.0 innings while allowing two runs on four hits.
- Kaelyn Larkin was 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
