Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at NJIT

Maine was won three-straight conference series

Little Falls, N.J. – The University of Maine baseball program split their Saturday doubleheader with NJIT to grab their third-straight series victory in conference play.

First Pitch (Game One – 7 Inn.) – 2 PM – 6-3 NJIT

Scoring Plays:
 Jack Quigley got the Black Bears on the board first as he hit an RBI groundout to shortstop, bringing home Chris Bear (1B) in the second inning.

Troy Carpenter drove in a run in the seventh inning, bringing home Nolan DeAndrade (BB) with a single to center field.

Hunter St. Denis capped off the scoring for Maine with an RBI single to right field, scoring Carpenter (1B).

Pitching Breakdown:
Gianni Gambardella (4-4) took the loss as he went 5 and 1/3 innings in the contest, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits, two walks a strikeout.

Owen Wheeler recorded the final two outs of the contest, allowing no base runners while striking out a batter.

First Pitch (Game Two) – 4:30 PM – 4-2 Maine
Scoring Plays:
 Nic Pepe got the Black Bears on the board in the second inning as he hit a two-run home run to right field, his third home run of the season. Brody Rasmussen (2B) scored on the play.

Shane Andrus hit his third home run of the season in the fourth inning as he hit a no-doubt, solo shot to left field.

Jack Quigley hit his first collegiate home run in the eighth inning, a solo shot to right field, to cap off the Black Bears scoring on the day.

Pitching Breakdown:
Vaun Larisa (1-3) picked up his first win of the season as he turned in a quality start, allowing just two runs on six hits, no walks and four strikeouts.

Brennan Rumpf (1) picked up his first save of the season as he went three shutout innings in relief, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out four batters.

Next Time Out:
The Black Bears (11-24) head to Boston College for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 21. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
