Orono, Maine – The University of Maine football program announces five new additions to their 2026 staff, including three Positional Coaches, their Sports Performance Coach and Equipment Manager.
Fredrick Gladney joins the Black Bears as their Wide Receivers Coach after spending time as the Special Teams Coordinator, Wide Receivers Coach and Academic Coordinator at Mercyhurst University. While at Mercyhurst he was a part of the staff that helped the University transition from DII to DI. His receiving core was top-two in every receiving conference category during his first season, along with having the first All-Conference First Team wide receiver since 2014. His special team units ranked top-five in multiple conference categories.
Sean Green joins the Black Bears as their running backs coach after having served as both the Quarterbacks Coach for the University of New England and as the Head Football Coach for Portland High School. While at UNE, along with coaching the quarterbacks, served in the coaching booth with direct involvement in offensive play-calling and in-game adjustments. He also assisted in holistic offensive strategy, practice scripting and opponent breakdown/film. At Portland High School he led the team to two State Championship appearances and one title, along with a 22-3 record. He also won a State Championship while coaching at Cape Elizabeth.
Amechie Walker joins the Black Bears as their Cornerbacks Coach after having spent time as the Pass Game Coordinator (Corners & Nickels) at Kutztown University. During his two seasons there he was part of a staff that was the #1 ranked defense in the nation (DII) in 2024 and #2 defense in 2025. He coached four All-Conference players and one 2
nd Team All-Region player. He helped lead daily drills during practice, lead and organize his own positional meetings while also recruiting in four different areas.
Max Brower joins the Black Bears as the new Sports Performance Coach after serving as the Assistant Director of Sport Performance at Southeastern Louisiana University. While at SLU, Brower was the lead assistant in strength and conditioning coaching and was in-charge of return-to-play. He also programmed and led all training sessions for softball, women's soccer and men's golf.
Patrick Reaves joins the Black Bears as their Equipment Manager after serving as the Football Equipment Intern at the University of South Alabama. While at South Alabama, he received and distributed orders to the appropriate sports, assisted in the supervision of 12 student managers through day-to-day tasks and communicated with coaches on their day-to-day equipment needs.
