Lincoln, NE – The University of Maine baseball program was swept on Saturday in the series finale doubleheader at Nebraska on Saturday afternoon.
First Pitch (Game One) – 2 PM EST – 6-3 Nebraska
Scoring Plays:
Juju Stevens got Maine on the board in the fourth inning as he hit his conference and team leading seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
Quinn Murphy (1B) scored on the play.
Nolan DeAndrade brought in the third and final run of the first game for Maine on a sac-fly in the seventh inning, scoring
Christopher Mondesir (BB/SB).
Pitching Breakdown:
Vaun Larisa (0-2) got the start in the first of two games on the day as he allowed four runs on seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
Sebastian Holt was first out of the bullpen as he pitched two innings, allowing two runs on three hits, one walk and striking out one.
Thomas Stabley threw the final two innings, allowing no runs on just one walk and striking out two batters.
First Pitch (Game Two) – 5 PM EST – 8-7 Nebraska
Scoring Plays:
The Black Bears broke through in a big way in the sixth inning as they scored seven runs in the frame, starting off with
Troy Carpenter as he singled home Murphy (BB).
Rex Hauser hit a bases-clearing triple, scoring
Shane Andrus (1B), Carpenter (1B) and Mondesir (BB) before
Brody Rasmussen hit a three-run home run to left field, his second home run of the season. Hauser (3B) and
Drew Reynolds (BB) scored on the play.
Pitching Breakdown:
Gianni Gambardella got the start in the series finale where he went five innings, allowing just one run on four hits, two walks and striking out three.
Tommy Martin was first out of the pen as he allowed one unearned run on two hits, one walk and striking out one.
Brennan Rumpf threw two frames, allowing an unearned run on two hits and a strikeout.
Jack Donlin began the ninth inning for Maine, allowing three runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk while failing to record an out.
Owen Wheeler (0-3) took the loss as he allowed two runs on a hit and a walk without recording an out in the ninth.
Pierce Friedman concluded the game on the mound, allowing a hit and striking out one in a 1/3 of an inning of work.
