NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The University of Maine softball team took both games of a doubleheader at Merrimack on Wednesday at Martone-Megail Field.
 
The Black Bears picked up 8-0 and 6-2 wins in the non-conference sweep.

Game 20

How it Happened

• The Black Bears took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, with Annika Shearer doubling home Francesca Guerrera and Kaelyn Larkin driving Shearer in with a sacrifice fly.
• A Neve Adams solo shot made it 3-0 in the second and then an inning later, Shearer knocked her first career home run to center field … Maine would add three more runs in the frame with back-to-back doubles from Maggie Helms and Peyton Archer.
• Keira Inman's triple in the top of the fourth made it 8-0 and then Alysen Rieth retired the side in the bottom of the fifth for the run-rule victory.

Game Notes

• Alysen Rieth started in the circle, throwing 5.0 innings for the shutout victory … she allowed three hits while walking four and striking out eight.
• Annika Shearer was 2-for-2 with two RBI and three runs scored … Shearer hit her first career home run and also added a double and earned one walk.
• Francesca Guerrera (2-for-4) and Keira Inman (2-for-2) also had multi-hit games for Maine, with Inman knocking a triple.
• Neve Adams was 1-for-3 with a home run … Maggie Helms had a double while Peyton Archer had a two RBI double.

How it Happened

• Maine plated two in the top of the first with Francesca Guerrera and Keira Inman both scoring runs … meanwhile, Ava Zettlemoyer didn't allow a hit until the third inning.
• Morgan Pool's two-RBI double to left field made it 4-0 Maine in the top of the fourth … Merrimack got on the board with a pair of runs in the home half of the frame.
• The Black Bears restored the four-run lead in the top of the seventh, with Annika Shearer sending a two-run shot to left field.

Game Notes

• Ava Zettlemoyer started, throwing 4.0 innings in earning the win … she allowed two runs on two hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
• Alysen Rieth picked up the save with 3.0 innings of no-hit, three strikeout relief.
• Kaelyn Larkin was 4-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
• Annika Shearer was 1-for-4 with two RBI off of a home run.
• Francesca Guerrera, Keira Inman, Maggie Helms and Morgan Pool each had a hit, with Pool knocking a two-RBI double and Guerrera scoring two runs.
