Hampton, Va. – The University of Maine softball team split two games on the second day of Battle at the Bay at Pirate Stadium.

The Black Bears earned a win over Saint Francis in the first game before falling to host Hampton in close game in the nightcap.

How it Happened
- After a scoreless first frame, the Black Bears erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the second … a Maggie Helms double brought in the first run and then Morgan Pool knocked a two-RBI single to left … after Maine got another run on an error, Alli Goetz tripled down the right field line to clear the bases for a 7-0 lead.
- Saint Francis pushed two runs across in the top of the third … Maine responded with three runs on RBIs from Neve Adams, Pool and Francesca Guerrera.
- The Black Bears made it 11-2 in the bottom of the fourth when Goetz scored on an error … the Red Flash had another two-run frame in the fifth to extend the game at 11-4.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Keira Inman doubled and then ended up scoring the run-rule winning run on a throwing error by the centerfielder.
Game Notes
- Kyla Brogan threw 4.0 innings in picking up the win … Brogan allowed two runs on three hits … Hannah Hipwell threw 1.0 innings of relief
- Seven different Black Bears recorded a hit.
- Alli Goetz went 1-for-1 with one triple, three RBI and two walks while Morgan Pool was 1-for-2 with three RBI.
- Keira Inman was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one double.
- Maggie Helms was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI … Annika Shearer and Neve Adams also scored two runs each.
- The win marked Maine's third straight, the first such winning streak during regular season play since 2019.

How it Happened
- The Black Bears took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second … with the bases loaded, Maggie Helms drove a ball to shortstop to drive in Alli Goetz … the very next batter, Keira Inman scored on a dropped third strike.
- The Pirates manufactured a five-run inning in the third to jump out to a 5-2 lead.
- In the top of the fourth, Kaelyn Larkin drove in two on a fielder's choice to pull Maine within one … the Pirates responded with one run in the home half of the inning for a 6-4 scoreline through four – that would hold over the final three innings.
