Maine went 2-0 on the first day of the Battle at the Bay.
Norfolk, Va. – The University of Maine softball team picked up a pair of wins on the first day of the Battle at the Bay on Friday at NSU Softball Field.
The Black Bears picked up a 2-0 win over Stony Brook before a 4-3 comeback win over Norfolk State in the nightcap.

How it Happened
- The Black Bears and Seawolves played three scoreless frames to start the contest … Alysen Rieth only faced three batters in each of the first three innings, striking out the side in the bottom of the second.
- In the top of the fourth, Eviana Robles doubled to right center to bring around Kyli Hernandez … the very next batter, Keira Inman knocked a triple down the left field line to bring home Robles.
- Rieth stranded one runner in the fourth, two runners in the bottom of the sixth and then closed out the game by stranding one runner in the bottom of the seventh.
- Alysen Rieth started for Maine, throwing all 7.0 innings for her third complete game of the season … Rieth allowed no runs on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
- Eviana Robles was 1-for-3 with one RBI, one double and one run scored … Keira Inman was 1-for-2 with one RBI and one triple.
- Francesca Guerrera was 2-for-4 while Kennedy Burns and Morgan Pool each recorded a hit.

- Norfolk State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and stretched it to 2-0 in the bottom of the third … in the bottom of the fifth, the Spartans used a home run to take a 3-0 lead.
- In the top of the seventh, Keira Inman started the Maine rally with a lead-off home run to right center … Alli Goetz knocked a pinch-hit single to left and then pinch runner Kennedy Burns came around three batters later when Francesca Guerrera singled through the left side.
- With two outs, Madison Hand singled to left field to plate two and put Maine up 4-3.
- The Spartans got the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh but a double play and a ground out closed the game out for Maine.
- Hannah Hipwell started, throwing 2.0 innings while giving up one run on four hits … Ava Zettlemoyer went 5.0 innings in earning her first win of the season, allowing two runs on six hits.
- Neve Adams was 2-for-2 with one run scored … Francesca Guerrera was 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored and one walk … Madison Hand had two RBI in going 1-for-4 … Keira Inman was 1-for-3 with a home run.
