ORONO, Maine – Senior Associate Provost for Student Success and Innovation Scott Marzilli and Vice President and Director of Athletics Jude Killy have announced promotions within the University of Maine Athletics student support services, student success unit, and compliance.
Michelle Simpson, who served as Maine's associate field hockey coach from 2017-25 and in her new role reports directly to Marzilli, was appointed associate athletic director for student success in December of 2025 before being promoted to senior woman administrator for the department in April of 2026. Additionally, Simpson leads the athletics academic support unit along with oversight from the Provost.
Jessica Bishop, who started her career at UMaine in 2008 and began her role in athletics academic support in 2018, was promoted to Athletic Academic Counselor and Assistant Athletic Director for Student Success in the summer of 2026.
"Our student-athletes are asked to accomplish a great deal, both in the classroom and in competition, and we have a responsibility to make sure we provide the support they need to be successful," said Marzilli. "Michelle and Jessica understand that helping our student-athletes become champions, both in the classroom and in competition, requires getting to know them, being there when they face challenges and celebrating their accomplishments. I am incredibly grateful for their continued commitment and unwavering dedication to our student-athletes. Jude and I look forward to continuing our strong and successful partnership between Academic Affairs and Athletics."
Logan Desmond, who has worked in the athletics department since 2017 with his primary focus being within the athletics department ticket office and most recently oversight of all revenue generating units, shifted his responsibilities to managing a number of Maine's internal units including its compliance department.
Jared Facemyer has been promoted to assistant athletic director for compliance services after previously holding the position of director of compliance services since September of 2024.
Additionally in the compliance unit, Gavin Meaney was elevated into the role of director of compliance in the summer of 2026. Meaney, who has served in Maine's compliance department since 2022, earned his Master of Arts in Global Policy from UMaine in 2022.
All units listed above serve one common goal, to work collaboratively to provide a comprehensive support system that empowers student-athletes to thrive in the classroom, in competition, and beyond. Through a shared commitment to academic excellence, personal development, and NCAA eligibility, these areas work hand in hand to ensure Maine student-athletes have the resources, guidance, and support necessary to achieve their goals while preparing for success long after graduation.
