Maine Athletics to honor longtime employee, Hall of Famer Ann England-Maxim on Saturday

Orono, Maine -- Maine Athletics is proud to celebrate the career of longtime UMaine employee, and University of Maine Sports Hall of Famer, Ann England-Maxim ('84) as part of Saturday's football game as the Black Bears square off against Merrimack at 5 p.m.
England-Maxim, who spent 36 years dedicated to the University of Maine and its student-athletes, retired from the University in June of 2026. A four-sport varsity student-athlete who was inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, began her career at UMaine as an assistant coach for the track & field and cross country programs for eight seasons.
A 1984 graduate of the University of Maine, England-Maxim served numerous years as the President of the University of Maine 'M' Club and worked across campus for four years before spending the final 23 years of her career as the Director of Academic Support for the Black Bears.
As a student-athlete, England-Maxim earned 12 varsity letters at the University of Maine while a member of the cross country, field hockey and track teams in the mid-1980's. She served as captain of the field hockey team in 1982 and captain of the track team in 1984 and 1985. England-Maxim was the 1984 and 1985 New England Champion in the 1,000 meter run and was a member of the 880-yard relay team that captured the New England Championship in 1985. At the time of induction, England-Maxim still held three University of Maine records.
