ORONO, Maine – University of Maine men's ice hockey freshman
Justin Poirier has been named the Hockey Commissioners' Association National Co-Forward of the Month, as announced on Thursday by the organization.
In the month of December, Poirier tied for second in the nation with nine points on six goals and three assists. The freshman tied for the national lead with three power-play goals and ranked second in the country with 24 shots on goal. He also assisted on one game-winning goal.
The Valleyfield, Quebec native recorded three multi-point games during the month of December. Each outing was a two-goal, one-assist outing – marking the first such three-game streak in men's Division I hockey since October 2021 (and just the fifth such streak since the 2005-06 season).
Poirier, who was named the Hockey East Player of the Month earlier this week, is the first Black Bear to earn a national monthly award since
Josh Nadeau for December 2023.
