Blauenfeldt sets new career high as Black Bears roll past River Hawks

Black Bears shoot season-high 54.7% from the floor

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's basketball team took home a convincing win over the UMass Lowell River Hawks in a Saturday matinee battle at Memorial Gym. Maine held UMass Lowell to single digit points in the first and fourth quarters to take home a 92-42 win.

Asta Blauenfeldt set a new career high in the contest finishing with 26 points on 10-17 shooting from the field and 6-11 performance from behind the three point arc. Adrianna Smith finished with another dominant performance with 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for her 10th double-double of the season. Lala Wood also finished the game in double digits, adding 10 points.

Maine shot a season-best 54.7% from the field and also knocked down a season high 13 three-pointers, shooting 50% from behind the arc. The Black Bears' defense caused the River Hawks to turn the ball over 17 times, with the Black Bears ending the contest with 10 steals. The Black Bears finished with 25 points off turnovers, while UMass Lowell only had two.

UMass Lowell started the game on a 5-2 run through the first three minutes of the contest, being the largest lead the River Hawks had throughout the afternoon. After baskets from Smith, Sarah Talon and Blauenfeldt, the Black Bears went into the quarter break up 19-9.

The Black Bears would start to stretch the floor in the second quarter by hitting six three-pointers in the frame. Blauenfeldt led the way with three, Woods sunk two of her own, while Talon also knocked down a triple. The Black Bears would head into the halftime break with a 42-20 lead.

Maine would go on a 21-8 run through 7:32 of the third quarter, featuring baskets from Olivia Alvarez, Smith and Blauenfeldt. Abby Price would add five points to a 13-5 run for the Black Bears to close out the third quarter.

Maine would go on another big scoring run in the fourth quarter as Lizzy Gruber led the way with six points in Maine's 15-4 run through the middle stages of the fourth quarter. UMass Lowell would get their final basket with 3:25 remaining and go scoreless the rest of the way.

Maine is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 5 as they will travel to Vermont to take on the Catamounts in an America East clash at 11 a.m.
