Orono, Maine – The University of Maine basketball team was defeated in their conference opener against Bryant, 56-51.

After a scoreless opening three minutes of action, the Black Bears jumped in front first as
TJ Biel knocked down a three-pointer.

Bryant jumped in front and was able to carry their lead into halftime as they had a 26-17 advantage.

Maine held the Bulldogs to 28.1% shooting from the field and forced eight turnovers.

Biel led the way with six points and two blocks.

The Black Bears came out in the second half and battled all the way back to take a 50-49 lead with a few minutes to play before the Bulldogs were able to retake the lead, coming away with the victory, 56-51.

Notes:
- Biel scored a season-high 20 points while adding seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
- Ryan Mabrey had nine points while Amare Allen had six points in his first collegiate start.
- Maine held Bryant to just 33.3% shooting from the field and 17.4% from three-point range.

The Black Bears (2-14) continue America East play on Thursday, Jan. 8 as they travel to UMBC to begin a three-game conference road trip. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 PM.
