ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine football team dropped its 2025 home opener, 13-10, to Stonehill on Saturday night at Alfond Stadium.
Sincere Baines rushed for 108 yards on 12 carries while Scott Woods had a game-high six catches. On defense, Chris Bacon led Maine with a career-high seven tackles and Devin Vaught had six. Nicolas Kalume added two sacks and three tackles for the Black Bears.
The Skyhawks took a 3-0 lead on its second possession of the game, converting a 34-yard field goal at the end of a 10-play drive. Maine got on the board late in the second quarter. After Sincere Baines ripped off a 54-yard run down the left sideline, Molayo Irefin punched in the ball from the half-yard line and Samuel Tremblay converted the point after attempt. Stonehill closed the first half with a 10-play, 67-yard drive to put a field goal on the board and cut Maine's halftime lead to 7-6.
With just over five minutes to go in the third quarter, Shane Keyes-Wilson forced a fumble and Bacon recovered the ball for the Black Bears at the Maine 46. Maine then covered 49 yards in eight plays before another Tremblay field goal for a 10-6 lead.
After Maine punted with 4:20 to play, Stonehill converted on 4th-and-21 from the Maine 34-yard line with Jack O'Connell finding Brigham Dunphy in the end zone to take a 12-10 lead before adding the point after attempt.

Sincere Baines ran for 108 yards on 12 carries … it marks his third consecutive game of rushing for at least 85 yards and his second 100+ yard performance this season.

Carter Peevy finished 15-of-26 for 95 yards through the air while rushing five times for 12 yards.
