First Matchup -- Saturday will be the first time these two programs will face off against each other in history. Stonehill enters their fourth season as a DI program, having previously been DII.

Last Time Out -- The Black Bears are coming off of a narrow defeat in their CAA opener against William & Mary, 28-27.

Carter Peevy was involved in all three touchdowns scored by the Black Bears on the night as he passed for a pair and rushed for one. His 98 rushing yards led all players on the night.

Sincere Baines continued his hot start to the season as he rushed for 87 yards and caught two passes for 5 yards and a touchdown.

THOMAS CONTINUES HIS IMPACT -- Christian Thomas has come out of the gates on fire as he is one of the most active defensive players in all of the FCS through the first two weeks.

His 28 tackles and 14 tackles per game are both the fourth-most in all of the FCS while his 15 solo tackles and 7.5 solo tackles per game is good for the seventh-best in all of the FCS.

Against Liberty on opening weekend, he set new career-highs in total tackles with 15, which led the CAA in week one, and 10 solo tackles. He also registered a 4-yard tackle for loss and a pass breakup.

FRONT LINE SHERMAN -- Elias Sherman, a transfer out of Central Missouri, is coming off of his best game of the season as he registered a team season-high 2.5 tackles for loss and his first sack of the season by the Black Bears defense.

His 3.5 tackles for loss on the season are the 15th-most in all of the FCS and the second-most in the CAA.

BACK-TO-BACK FOR BAINES -- Sincere Baines is making the most of the RB1 spot on the depth chart as over the first two games of the season he has averaged 102.5 yards per game, 2 receptions per game and has scored a touchdown in back-to-back weeks. On opening weekend at Liberty, he took a 77-yard run to the endzone on just his second carry of the season.

Baines's 205 rushing yards are the most in the first two games of a season by a Black Bear since Josh Mack ran for 358 yards through two games to begin the 2017 season. He currently ranks 18th in all of the FCS for total rushing yards.

YEAR TWO PEEVY -- Carter Peevy is back in the drivers seat of the Black Bears for the 2025 season after showing up last year as a transfer from Mercer and leading the team out on offense every week. He threw for 2,422 yards and 18 touchdowns for the 5-7 Black Bears, ranking in the top-4 in the CAA in pass attempts (213) and yards per game (201.8).

A standout performer in the classroom as well as he was named to the FCS Academic All-Star Team and ended his first year at Maine with a 4.0 GPA in his graduate program.

Through two weeks of the 2025 season, Peevy has thrown for 229 yards, a 2/2 TD/INT ratio and rushed for 89 yards a score. He ran for 98 yards last week against William & Mary.

TOP OF THE DEPTH CHART -- Scott Woods joined the Black Bears for his final year of college football after spending four years at Harvard. He reeled in a team-high 4 catches in week one, going for 34 yards with a long reception of 13 yards.

Mo Irefin led the receiving core in yards on opening week as he had 35 yards on 3 catches, tallying the second longest catch of the day at 19 yards.

O-LINE PRESENCE -- Maine will be leaning on a veteran group of their offensive line once again as the combination of Kocan (LT), Iliano (LG), Cruji (C), Boutaugh (RG) and Williams (RT) saw every snap on offense against Liberty and four of the five saw every snap in week two against William & Mary.

The group has only allowed 4 sacks through two weeks and only 1 sack last week.

SECONDARY STRENGTH -- The Black Bear secondary has recorded 4 pass breakups through the first two weeks.

Led by a pair of All-CAA Preseason Honorable Mentions in Jamaree Gibson (CB) and Devin Vaught (FS), the Black Bears broke up 31 passes a season ago and generated 10 interceptions, three of which came from Vaught. Vaught was a big performer on week one as he set a new career-high with 8 solo tackles.

Gibson led all Black Bears with nine pass breakups in 2024.

Jake Kucera started at strong safety after having a strong camp, he appeared in only three games last season for the Black Bears but saw the bulk of snaps on opening week at Liberty.

PRESEASON HONORS -- The Black Bears had five members listed on the All-CAA Preseason list.

Trevin Ewing was named to the All-CAA Preseason Team as a kick returner while Carter Peevy,        Jamaree Gibson, Devin Vaught and Christian Thomas all were named to the Honorable Mentions list.

CLOSE CALL -- Since 2013, Maine is 27-20 in games decided by seven points or less.

Maine is 0-1 in one possession games in 2025.

In 2023, Maine was on the losing end of all three of its games which were decided by 7 points or fewer and they were 1-1 on such games in 2024.

A Maine Win Would:

... The first win over William & Mary for Coach Stevens.

... The eighth win for the Black Bears over the Tribe in their last 11 games.

... The first CAA win of the season for the Black Bears.

... The earliest CAA win (in games played) in any season under Coach Stevens.

... The first conference opener win under Coach Stevens.
