NEW HAVEN, Conn. – On the first day of the Bulldog Invitational, the University of Maine softball team dropped two games, falling to Sacred Heart and Yale at 5K Corral Field at Dewitt Family Stadium.

How it Happened
- Maine and Sacred Heart played three scoreless frames … with back-to-back singles from Immy Gie and Kyrah Haba-Dailey and a walk from Bailey Snowberger, Maine had the bases loaded with one out but couldn't push any runs across.
- The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth off of a home run … SHU then added four runs in the top of the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh.
- Morgan Pool singled to open the bottom of the seventh but SHU stifled any rally for the 7-0 final.
Game Notes
- Madison Simmerman started, throwing 4.2 innings while giving up four runs on five hits with one strikeout … in 2.1 innings of relief, Ava Zettlemoyer allowed three runs – two earned – on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
- Bailey Snowberger earned three walks at the plate while Morgan Pool went 1-for-1 and had two bases on balls.
- Immy Gie (1-for-4) and Kyrah Haba-Dailey (1-for-4) also recorded hits for the Black Bears.

How it Happened
- Maine took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second frame … Bailey Snowberger led off with a single and then three batters later, Nora Campo sent a home run over the centerfield fence.
- Yale plated one run in the bottom of the third.
- Francesca Guerrera led off the fourth with a single to right field and Gabby Papushka doubled to right in the top of the fifth but both runners were stranded.
- The Bulldogs then took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth and pushed three more runs across in the bottom of the sixth.
- Papushka reached again in the top of the seventh but Yale got the final out for the 6-2 win.

- Maine will face Sacred Heart and Yale again tomorrow, with 1:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., respectively, scheduled for game time.
