ORONO, Maine -- Three Black Bears earned four America East women's basketball postseason honors, as announced by the league on Wednesday, March 4.
Caroline Bornemann led the way with a selection to the America East All-Conference First Team and also a spot on the All-Academic Team while
Paula Gallego earned a spot on the America East All-Conference Third Team.
Caroline Dotsey was tabbed the league's Sixth Player of the Year.
Bornemann, who earns her first-ever all-conference accolade, becomes 22nd player in program history to earn a spot on the league's first team. The graduate student forward led Maine in both scoring (12.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.9) as she compiled 17 double-digit scoring performances and seven double-doubles during the regular season. Heading into postseason play, Bornemann ranked fifth among league-leaders in scoring, second in rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage (44.2), 12th in assists (2.4) and tops at 33.4 minutes per game. Bornemann's top-performance of the season came on Jan. 16 against NJIT where she recorded a career-high 34 points, including the 1,000th of her career, to go along with 13 rebounds and a career-best six assists. Bornemann, a finance major pursuing her MBA, posted a 3.95 undergraduate grade point average and currently boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA in grad school.
Gallego, who also earns her first-career all-conference award, set the table for the Black Bears all season long as she led the team in assists at 3.6 per game, second best among America East leaders. Gallego averaged 7.9 points and ranked second on the team in rebounding at 4.4 per outing. Gallego, who posted six or more assists in five games during the regular season, opened the season with 21 point and a career-high 10 rebounds before pouring in a career-high 23 points on five triples in a win over Bryant to highlight the year. In total, Gallego racked up 10 double-digit scoring performances on the season.
Dotsey was Maine's offensive spark off the bench all season long as she ranked 11th in the league with 10.1 points per game while checking in 12th with 1.3 triples made per outing. She completed the season with 14 double-digit scoring performances, including a career-high 30 points at New Hampshire on 11-of-20 shooting. Dotsey posted a career-best five triples and finished with 26 points in a win at Stonehill.
