Men's Basketball is Defeated by Bryant on Saturday Afternoon

Maine clinched a home playoff game as a result of other games around the America East

Orono, ME - The University of Maine men's basketball team was defeated by the Bryant Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in Orono. The Black Bears did clinch their first home playoff game since 1995 as a result of a Binghamton loss, setting up a quarterfinal game at Skip Chappelle Court on Saturday, March 8. Their opponent is TBA.

Neither side got out to more than a five-point advantage in an evenly matched first half as Bryant was able to take a narrow one-point lead into the break at 38-37.

Kellen Tynes had a team-high 9 points in the first half, along with a block and a steal.

Jaden Clayton had 8 points and 3 assists while six other Black Bears had at least two points in the half.

Bryant pushed their lead out to a game-high 8 points with 18:15 remaining in the contest before the Black Bears worked it back down to just two points with 3 minutes remaining in the contest.

The Bulldogs connected on the majority of their late free throws as they were able to defeated Maine, 80-72.

Four different Black Bears scored in double-digits on the night as Tynes (15), Clayton (16), Quion Burns (15) and AJ Lopez (14) all hit that mark.

Maine shot 42.9% from the field as a team and forced nine turnovers on the afternoon.

Maine (17-13, 9-6 AE) wraps up the regular season on Tuesday against UMass Lowell. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 PM.
