YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The University of Maine softball team dropped two games on the first day of the Mardi Gras Mambo at the Youngsville Sports Complex.
Game 9

How it Happened
- The Black Bears took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first … Gabby Papushka singled to left field and then two batters later, came around to score after Immy Gie drove a ball through the left side.
- The Lions responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame … then in the bottom of the second, the hosts pushed four runs across for a 6-1 lead after two.
- Both teams were then scoreless through the next four full innings and then Maine was held off the bases in the top of the seventh for the 6-1 final.
Game Notes
- Alysen Rieth started, throwing 2.0 innings while giving up six runs on six hits while striking out one and walking three … in 4.0 innings of relief, Ava Zettlemoyer allowed one hit while walking two.
- Neither Maine pitcher gave up an extra base hit.
- Gabby Papushka and Immy Gie recorded hits for Maine … Gie also recorded a walk.
- Morgan Pool threw out two runners in the bottom of the third.

How it Happened
- Southern took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second and then made it 2-0 after three.
- In the top of the fourth, Bailey Snowberger doubled down the left field line and then Immy Gie's home run made it a 2-2 game.
- Southern was able to take a 4-2 lead after four innings.
- In the top of the sixth, Snowberger and Gie had back-to-back singles and then Snowberger came around on Francesca Guerrera's sacrifice fly to center to make it a one-run game.
- Southern held on for the 4-3 win.
