RALEIGH, N.C. -- The University of Maine women's basketball team held No. 9 NC State to its lowest point total of the season but it wasn't enough as the Black Bears dropped a 66-47 decision to the Wolfpack on Tuesday evening.
Asta Blauenfeldt finished in double-figures for the 22nd time in her career as she guided Maine with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
Adrianna Smith registered her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six assists while
Kaliyah Sain chipped in nine points and six boards.
The Black Bears, who outscored NC State in the fourth quarter with a 9-for-18 shooting performance in the fina 10 minutes, finished the game 20-for-69 with six triples.Â
For the second consecutive game, Maine finished with single digit turnover totals as it gave the ball away just eight times while forcing nine NC State giveaways.Â
The Black Bears kept the game within four points over the opening quarter, including cutting the deficit to just a pair on Blauenfeldt's driving layup off a turnover with 2:44 to play in the first.Â
NC State entered the second quarter with a 9-5 edge and elevated the lead to 11-5 before
Sarah Talon's bucket off a turnover trimmed the Wolfpack advantage back to four.
With NC State leading 14-11 midway through the second quarter, the Wolfpack went on an extended 14-0 run to take their largest lead of the half, 28-11.Â
Blauenfeldt ended the run with a triple as NC State's lead would stand at 28-14 entering the half.
The Wolfpack outscored Maine 21-13 in the third to carry a 49-27 edge into the fourth.Â
Maine was able to hold strong, outscoring NC State 20-17 in the final quarter, but fell in the end by a final of 66-47.Â
The Black Bears return to action on Friday, Nov. 14 when they travel to meet VCU at 7 p.m.
