Maine falls on the road at NJIT

Victoria Dungey scored her first goal of the season.

NEWARK, N.J. – The University of Maine women's soccer team fell on the road, 2-1, to NJIT on Saturday night at Lubetkin Field.
 
The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest. NJIT then doubled the lead in the 55th minute, cleaning up a corner kick in the box.
 
The Black Bears got on the board in the 65th minute when Abbey Thornton fed Victoria Dungey up the right side, with Dungey touching the ball into the box and finishing it inside the near post. Maine out-shot NJIT by a 13-3 margin in the second half but couldn't find an equalizer.
 
NOTES
  • Maine had the 15-9 lead in shots and the teams were tied 4-4 in shots on goal.
  • The Black Bears had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
  • Elena Barenberg made two saves in moving to 2-4-2 on the year.
  • Maine is now 2-1-3 in the all-time series with NJIT.
