Poirier tabbed Hockey East Pro Ambitions Co-Rookie of the Week

Poirier recorded a hat trick and finished his first collegiate weekend with four points.

AMESBURY, Mass. – University of Maine men's ice hockey forward Justin Poirier has been named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday by the league.

Poirier recorded a hat trick in Maine's season-opener on Friday and added an assist on Saturday for a 3-1-4 scoreline in his first weekend of collegiate hockey. The first-year also added eight shots on goal, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating on the 2-0-0 weekend for Maine.

In Friday night's 5-2 win over Holy Cross, the Valleyfield, Quebec native scored twice in the second period and then completed the hat trick in the third period. Saturday night saw Poirier earn the primary assist on a goal from Josh Nadeau.

This marks the first career weekly honor for Poirier, who shared this week's Rookie of the Week honor with Vaclav Nestrasil of UMass.
