PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team was defeated by Providence College in the overtime period on Friday at Schneider Arena for a final score of 3 to 2.
Maine opened up the scoring in the second period, when
Sam Morrison scored on the powerplay, off a pass from
Kendall Sundby. Senior
Adriana van de Leest picked up the secondary assist.Â
The third period brought two goals from the Friars and one from the Maine Black Bears to tie up the score.
Haley Ryan scored on a breakaway opportunity with
Danielle Brunette earning the assist.Â
Three minutes and eleven seconds into the overtime period, the Friars found the back of the net for the overtime-win and extra conference point.Â
Maine goaltender
Julia Bachetti made 21 saves, as shots-on-goal were 29 to 23 in favor of the Black Bears.
Maine went 1-for-4 on the powerplay and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.Â
