Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Maine kicks off second half with a Border Battle win over UNH

DURHAM, New Hampshire - The University of Maine women's hockey team kicked off the second half of the season with a 4-1 win over the University of New Hampshire on Friday at the Whittemore Center. Mikayla Boarder and Stephanie Jacob led the way for Maine with two points apiece, each notching one goal and one assist. 

After a scoreless first period, Sam Morrison opened the scoring on a two-on-one pass from Mikayla Boarder. Jamie Grinder also picked up an assist. A few minutes later, Mikayla Boarder widened the lead scoring on another two-on-one play. Stephanie Jacob earned the assist. 28 seconds later, Lila Shea buried Maine's third goal as the Black Bears ended the second period with a three-goal lead. 

New Hampshire was able to sneak in one goal in the final frame. Stephanie Jacob found the back of the net on an empty net to secure Maine's win with under three minutes to play. 

Goaltender Kiia Lahtinen made 33 saves on 34 shots for Maine.

Maine outshot UNH 35-33. 
Maine killed off 3-of-3 penalties successfully.
Stephanie Jacob and Alyssa Wruble led the team with four shots on goal each.
