Maine's Unbeaten Streak Stopped at Rutgers

The Black Bears fell on the road to the Scarlet Knights.

PISCATAWAY, N.J.  – The University of Maine women's soccer team fell on the road at Big 10- foe Rutgers, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.
 
It was all Maine in the early going, with the Black Bears earning four corners and three shots in the opening 20 minutes. It was Rutgers, though, that opened the scoring. Shaela Bradley made it 1-0 Scarlet Knights in the 27th minute and Kylie Daigle doubled the lead six minutes later.
 
The teams battled back and forth through the second half, with the Scarlet Knights converting a penalty kick in the 84th minute for the 3-0 final.
 
NOTES
  • Rutgers had the 12-7 lead in shots and the 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Black Bears had five corners and the Scarlet Knights at six.
  • Jessica Kasacek finished with two saves for Maine.
  • Abby Kraemer had a game-high four shots and recorded one shot on goal … Kristina Kelly had a shot on goal.
  • Myla Schneider played the full 90 minutes for Maine.
  • This marked the first-ever contest against a Big 10 school for the Black Bears.
