Preview of the Black Bears: Maine is coming off of a season in which they were defeated in the America East semifinals by UAlbany. The Black Bears had an 8-12 record overall as they averaged 1.80 goals per game.
The Black Bears brought in eight new players to the 2024 squad, five of which were transfers, many of which will find themselves in key roles in the early part of the season for Maine. Among the key returns to the Black Bears is Senior back,
Poppy Lambert. Lambert is coming off of her third-straight All-Conference selection and second-straight NFHCA All-Region selection. The 2022 Second-Team All-American sits just eight goals shy of the programs all-time record of 58 career goals (Kelly Newton - 57). Lambert was named an NFHCA DI Watchlist for the 2024 season.
Maine also returns four other members of last years squad that appeared in all 20 games, those being:Â
Bhreagh Kennedy,
Kate Richardson (2023 AE All-Tournament Member),
Olivia Geniti (Senior NEXUS Member - 2024Â NFHCA DI Watchlist) and
Saylor Kuefler (2023 AE All-Rookie Team).
Black Bears VS the Field: Maine begins the weekend taking on the preseason #1 ranked team in the country, Northwestern. In their last four contests, the Black Bears are 1-3 against the 2021 National Champions, with their victory coming back in 2019.
Maine faces off against UMass for the second game of their weekend series. The Black Bears are 0-6 against UMass over the past ten seasons, with UMass narrowly taking last seasons contest in Maine, 3-2.
Maine is 1-1 all-time against the Hoosiers.
