Maine's Season Ends in America East Tournament

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine softball team saw its season come to an end on Thursday on the second day of the 2024 America East Championship.
 
The Black Bears dropped a 3-2 contest to second-seeded Binghamton. Maine then fell in the elimination game to Bryant, 7-4.

How it Happened
  • After three scoreless innings, Caitlyn Fallon's two-run home run to left put the Black Bears up 2-0 in the top of the fourth.
  • The Bearcats responded in the bottom half of the frame … first Bianca Lawson hit a two-run shot and then Bella Farina doubled to left field to put Binghamton on top, 3-2.
  • The Black Bears left a runner on base in the sixth and seventh innings.
Game Notes
  • Caitlyn Fallon went 1-for-1 with two RBI and a walk.
  • Isabelle True started, going 3.2 innings while giving up three runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks … Alysen Rieth threw 2.1 innings of hit-less, scoreless relief.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs went up, 1-0, in the bottom of the first on a solo home run.
  • Bryant then pushed six runs across in the bottom of the third to take a 7-0 lead after three.
  • The Black Bears began to chip away in the top of the fifth when Nora Campo homered to center field … an inning later, Katie Jo Moery doubled and then scored on a Rylee Kent single to make it 7-2.
  • In the top of the seventh, Maggie Helms walked and moved to third on a Campo double … Kyrah Haba-Dailey then plated Helms … a Gabby Papushka single up the middle made it a 7-4 but the Bulldogs were able to strand the Black Bears and close out the game.
