How it Happened
- The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the first and then pushed it to 3-0 in the second.
- The teams then played three scoreless innings.
- In the top of the sixth, Gabby Papushka walked and Anna Margetis got hit by a pitch to set the state for a three-run home run from Caitlyn Fallon.
- An inning later, the Black Bears pushed four runs across … Kyrah Haba-Dailey hit a lead-off double and scored on a Kyli Hernandez single … Papushka's bunt single scored Hernandez … a Margetis sacrifice fly and an error gave Maine a 7-3 edge.
- The Bulldogs responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
- Haba-Dailey, Krista Francia and Papushka walked to load the bases in the top of the eighth … Haba-Dailey and Papushka then scored when Margetis forced Bryant into a throwing error.
- Maine is the first sixth-seed to win its opening game of the tournament for the first time since 2017.
- Kyrah Haba-Dailey finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored ... it was her second career multi-hit game.
- Rylee Kent went 3-for-4 with a double and Krista Francia was 2-for-4 with two runs scored ... Kent's three hits marked a career-high.
- Gabby Papushka was 1-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and two walks ... Kyli Hernandez was 1-for-1 with an RBI ... Anna Margetis went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.
- Caitlyn Fallon went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run.
- Fallon started in the circle, going 7.0 innings while giving up seven runs while walking seven and striking out one … she threw 158 pitches … Isabelle True threw 1.0 innings in scoreless, hitless relief and picked up the save.
