ORONO, Maine – UMaine's student-athletes posted impressive marks for the fall semester as 16 of the 17 varsity programs achieved cumulative team grade point averages of 3.0 or better for the 2024 spring term, 10 of which posted marks of 3.50 or greater. The Black Bears achieved a department cumulative GPA of 3.40 for the spring term.

The women's soccer team led all programs with a department high 3.85 GPA for the term, followed by women's basketball at 3.81 and field hockey and women's cross country which each achieved a 3.72 GPA. The men's cross country team achieved the highest mark of any men's program with a 3.63 GPA followed by the men's ice hockey program's 3.57 mark. Additionally, softball (3.68), women's swim & dive (3.60), women's indoor track & field (3.59), and women's outdoor track & field (3.59) each bested 3.50 for the term.

Seven programs achieved their highest spring semester GPA since 1988. Those teams were field hockey, softball, women's soccer, men's basketball, men's swim & dive, men's outdoor track & field, and men's indoor track & field.

Maine's student-athlete team GPA of 3.4 bested the overall spring term GPA for the campus population (3.27) while first-year student-athletes achieved a 3.3 GPA vs. a 3.09 for non-student athlete first-years.

Additionally, 78 student-athletes achieved perfect 4.00 GPAs for the spring term while 22 of those earned accumulative 4.0 GPAs for the year.
