ORONO, Maine – University of Maine student-athletes posted impressive marks for the spring semester, with 16 of the 17 varsity programs achieving cumulative team grade point averages of 3.0 or better for the 2025 spring term.

Ten Maine programs posted GPAs of 3.50 or greater while 76 student-athletes achieved perfect 4.00 GPAs for the spring term. Additionally, the student-athletes average 3.46 GPA for the term bested the mark of 3.246 for all University full-time degree seeking undergraduates and the 3.19 mark for all undergraduates.

Field hockey led all programs with a department-high 3.77 GPA, followed by a two-way tie of 3.72 GPAs for softball and men's cross country. Women's soccer had the fourth-best GPA in the department at 3.70. Additionally, women's basketball (3.66), women's cross country (3.66), women's swimming & diving (3.63), women's ice hockey (3.58), women's indoor track & field (3.54), women's outdoor track & field (3.55) and men's ice hockey (3.52) each bested 3.50 for the spring term.
Seven programs achieved their highest spring semester GPA since 1988. Those teams were women's ice hockey, softball, baseball, men's cross country, football, men's indoor track & field and men's outdoor track & field.
Additionally, of the 76 individual student-athletes that achieved perfect 4.00 GPAs for the spring term, 39 of those student-athletes earned a 4.00 in both the fall and spring semesters during the 2024-25 academic year.
