ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine softball team dropped an America East contest to UMBC, 8-0, on Sunday morning at the UMaine Softball Complex.

How it Happened

UMBC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single up the middle … the Retrievers added three more runs in the top of the second.
Gabby Papushka doubled in the bottom of the second to give Maine a base runner and then moved to third on a Caitlyn Fallon single but both runners get left on base.
The Retrievers added a pair in the third and a single run in the fourth.
In the fourth, Krista Francia walked, Fallon singled again and Kennedy Priest earned a walk to load the bases but the Black Bears couldn't push anything aross.
UMBC added a run in the fifth and then held Maine scoreless for the 8-0 final.

Game Notes

Caitlyn Fallon went 2-for-2 for her fourth multi-hit game of the season.
Fallon's grand slam was the first for Maine since Kya Enos on Feb. 19, 2022.
Anna Margetis and Gabby Papushka both went 1-for-3.
Papushka hit her fourth double of the season to extend her hitting streak to three games.

The Black Bears will wrap up non-conference play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Holy Cross on Thursday, April 25.
Maine will then play a three-game America East series at UMass Lowell April 27-28, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 27 followed by a single game at 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.
