Baseball Takes Down Farmington on Tuesday Night, 14-4

Orono, ME - The University of Maine baseball team defeated the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers on Tuesday night, 14-4.

First Pitch: 4:05 P.M. (14-4 Black Bears)

First Inning: Farmington jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as they scored four in the opening frame.

Maine responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the opening inning as Nick White singled home Will Burns (BB/SB), White (1B/SBx2) scored on a pickoff play and Myles Sargent singled home a pair of runs in Jake Marquez (BB/SBx2) and Colin Plante (BB/SB).

Second Inning: Blaine Cockburn took over on the mound in relief of Tyler Nielsen. Nielsen allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks and 1 strikeout in his 1 inning of work.

Maine took the lead in the bottom of the frame as Jeremiah Jenkins (1B) scored on an error by the shortstop.

Third Inning: Marshall Smaracko began the third inning on the mound for Maine in a bullpen day for the Black Bears. Cockburn allowed no runs on 1 walk, 2 hit batters in his 1 inning of work.

Fourth Inning: The Black Bears began to pull away in the fourth frame as Jeremiah Jenkins hit his team-leading 11th home run of the season to left field. His two-run home run brought home Burns (1B) on the play.

White (HBP) scored on an error later in the frame and Zach Martin (HBP) scored on a sac-fly by Dean O'Neill to make it 9-4 Black Bears.

Fifth Inning: Owen Wheeler took over for Smaracko to begin the fifth inning. Smaracko allowed just 1 walk andstruck out 3 in his 2 innings of work.

Sixth Inning: Gabe Gifford began the sixth inning on the mound for Maine. Wheeler allowed no runs and no base runners in his 1 inning of work.

The Black Bears tacked on two more runs in the sixth frame as Martin (HBP) scored on a wild pitch and Jeph Hadson-Taylor (HBP) scored on a sac-fly by O'Neill.

Seventh Inning: Geoff Mosseau began the seventh inning on the mound for Maine. Gifford allowed 2 walks and struck out 2 in his shutout inning of work.

Eighth Inning: Noah Lewis headed to the mound for the eighth inning of the contest. Mosseau allowed just 1 hit and struck out 2 batters in his inning of work.

Maine plated three more runs in the eighth frame as Myles Sargent tripled home Plante (3B), Jack Friend brought home Sargent on fielders choice play and Jenkins singled home Friend (FC).

Ninth Inning: Colton Carson was called on in the ninth inning. Lewis allowed 1 walk and struck out 2 batters in his inning of work.

Maine (6-18, 2-4 AE) will play host to NJIT the next time out. Game one of the weekend series in tentatively scheduled for Friday, Apr. 5 at 3 P.M. but may change due to impending weather in Maine.
