Storrs, CT - The University of Maine baseball team was defeated by UConn on Wednesday afternoon, 20-2. 

First Pitch: 3:05 P.M. (20-2 UConn - 7 Innings)

Second Inning: Maine jumped out to an early 2-0 lead following a two-run home run by Jake Marquez. His fourth long ball of the season scored Zach Martin (BB) on the play.

UConn responded by scoring nine in the bottom of the frame, which included three home runs.

Gabe Gifford was called on with two outs and a runner on second in the second inning of the contest. Noah Lewis allowed 8 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, 2 hit batters and 2 strikeouts across 1 and ⅔ innings of work.

Third Inning: UConn scored seven runs in the third frame.

Gifford was relieved by Marshall Smaracko with the bases loaded and two outs in the frame. Gifford allowed 8 runs on 6 hits and 7 walks across 1 inning of work.

Fourth Inning: UConn scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning.

Fifth Inning: Geoff Mosseau began the fifth inning on the mound for Maine. Smaracko allowed 3 runs on 3 hits across 1 and ⅓ innings of work.

Sixth Inning: Blaine Cockburn came on in the sixth inning for Maine on the mound. Mosseau fired off a perfect inning in the fifth, striking out one batter.

UConn plated one run in the frame on a single to left field.

Cockburn allowed 1 run on 2 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts in his inning of work.

Maine (7-20, 3-5) returns to conference action on Friday, Apr. 12 for a weekend series against UMass Lowell. First pitch is scheduled for 3 P.M.
