NEWARK, Del. – The University of Maine softball team split a doubleheader with Delaware on Friday on the first day of the Blue Hen Invitational at the Delaware Softball Diamond.
The Black Bears took game one, 5-4, before falling in the second, 7-0.

How it Happened
- The Black Bears took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first … Rylee Kent led off with a single, Krista Francia walked and then Caitlyn Fallon doubled them in ... a Gabby Papushka RBI single to right scored Fallon.
- After a scoreless second and third, Delaware pushed two runs across in the fourth but in the top of the fifth, a Francia single drove in Kennedy Burns,
- The Blue Hens tied things up 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth.
- In the top of the seventh, a Madison Hand pinch-hit double scored Francia for a 5-4 edge … Kaly Thomas closed things out in the bottom half to earn her first career win.
Game Notes
- Isabelle True started, going 3.0 innings while allowing two runs on five hits … Ava Zettlemoyer went 2.2 innings in relief, giving up two runs on two hits … Thomas threw 1.1 innings of no-hit relief, striking out two and walking two in earning her first career win.
- Burns went 2-for-3 and scored one run… Francia was 1-for-2 and earned two walks while driving in one and scoring twice … Kent, Papushka, Fallon and Hand all registered hits with Kent and Fallon also scoring.
- The Black Bears had a season-high seven hits in the contest.

How it Happened
- The Blue Hens took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first on the backs of two doubles and a single.
- Katie Jo Moery singled to start the second inning and the fourth inning but was left on base both times.
- Delaware went on to add a run in the third and two more in the fifth for the 7-0 final.
Game Notes
- Caitlyn Fallon started, going 4.1 innings while allowing seven runs on 10 hits and striking out four and walking three … Alysen Rieth threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
- Keira Inman registered her first career hit with a fifth-inning single … she then picked up her second stolen base of the season.
- Moery.singled twice for her first multi-hit game of the season.
- Rylee Kent earned two walks and has now reached base in four consecutive games.
