ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team suffered an overtime loss to Merrimack College in the opening round of Hockey East playoffs at Alfond Arena Wednesday night.

Fifth-year forward Ida Kuoppala scored Maine's lone goal, her 21st of the season, around the six-minute mark left in the second period to give Maine the lead. Sam Morrison picked up the assist on Kuoppala's power-play goal. 

Merrimack scored on a power-play opportunity in the third period to equalize the score, sending the game into a 20-minute overtime period. 

One minute and 36 seconds into overtime, Merrimack notched the game-winning goal, ending Maine's season at a 15-18-2 record. 

Senior netminder Jorden Mattison stopped 31 shots for Maine.
