Baseball Plates 16 Runs as they Mercy Rule Fordham on Saturday Afternoon

DeLand, FL - The University of Maine baseball team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Fordham via mercy rule, 16-2 in 7-innings.

First Pitch: Noon (16-2, Maine)

First Inning: Maine got the bats going early as they hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the opening inning. Jake Marquez hit his second of the season to left field before Jeremiah Jenkins hit his second of the season to center field as Maine jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Second Inning: Fordham plated two runs in the second inning to tie up the contest at 2-2. 

Maine retook the lead as they plated two runs in the bottom of the frame, the first by way of a throwing error that allowed Nick White (BB) to score. The second run was scored on a sac-fly to right field by Myles Sargent, scoring Camden MacDonald (BB).

Third Inning: Maine added two more runs as Nick White hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field. Zach Martin (BB) scored on the play.

Fifth Inning: Connor Goodman (1B) scored on a wild pitch to start to break the score wide open. Colin Plante (BB) picked up an RBI after drawing the bases loaded walk, scoring (Camden MacDonald (BB).

Jake Marquez added onto his solid day at the plate as he hit a two-run single to right field, scoring Jeph Hadson-Taylor (PB) and Myles Sargent (FC). Plante came into score on the next batter on an error as Maine increased their lead to 11-2.

Sixth Inning: Colton Carson began the sixth frame on the mound for the Black Bears. Jason Kreiger went five solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks and striking out 6.

Maine added five runs in the bottom of the frame as Hadson-Taylor recorded an RBI on a fielder's choice, scoring Zach Martin (BB). 

Myles Sargent plated a run on a double to right field, scoring White (1B).

Colin Plante hit a sac-fly to left field to score Hadson Taylor (FC) before Maine scored three-straight runs on bases loaded walks drawn by Jenkins, Goodman and Martin.

Seventh Inning: Luc Lavigueur was called on to wrap up the game in the seventh inning. Carson allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 batter is his lone shutout inning of work.

Lavigueur sat down all three batters he faced, striking out two of them.

Maine (1-4) picked up their first win of the season, 16-2. 

Kreiger (1-0) earned his first collegiate victory in the performance.

Maine wraps up the weekend against Army on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 9 A.M.
