BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Maine softball team dropped the first two contests of the Joan Joyce Classic on Friday, falling to Michigan and Florida Atlantic.
Game 5
Score: Michigan 11, Maine 0

How it Happened
- The Wolverines used a two-run double and a two-run single to take a 4-0 lead after the bottom of the first.
- The Black Bears put two on in the top of the second but left them on base before keeping Michigan off the board in the bottom half of the frame.
- Kennedy Burns walked and then Kenedee Giddens singled to put two on for Maine the second inning in a row but the runners were stranded again.
- Michigan went on to plate three in the third and four in the fourth and kept Maine off the board for the 11-0 run-rule victory.
Game Notes
- Caitlyn Fallon got the start in the circle, going 2.0 innings while giving up seven runs on eight hits with three walks … Kali Thomas went 2.0 innings in relief, allowing four runs - three earned - while walking three and striking out one.
- Kenedee Giddens registered Maine's lone hit of the day.

How it Happened
- After FAU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the teams battled through a scoreless second and third frame.
- Krista Francia and Anna Margetis hit back-to-back singles in the top of the fourth before Gabby Papushka moved them over with a sacrifice bunt … Katie Jo Moery then doubled to center to tie the game, 2-2.
- The Owls exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth, plating seven of them before the Black Bears recorded an out and then the eighth on a single up the middle.
Game Notes
- Alysen Rieth started, throwing 4.0 innings … Rieth allowed five runs on six hits while walking four and striking out four.
- Isabelle True (0.0 innings, three runs, one hit), Ava Zettlemoyer (0.1 innings, two runs, one hit) and Kaly Thomas (0.0 innings, zero runs, zero hits) all appeared in relief.
- Francia, Margetis and Moery recorded the hits for Maine … Francia was 1-for-1 with one run scored and one walk.
