Lowell, MA – The University of Maine men's basketball was defeated at UMass Lowell on Thursday night, 76-62.

Maine got on the board first in the contest on a
Kellen Tynes jumper before UMass Lowell scored nine of the next 11 points.

The Black Bears answered the opening run by Lowell with a 7-0 run of their own to retake the early lead at 11-9.

Maine fell behind briefly after taking back the early lead before they pushed their lead up to six points at 23-17 with six minutes remaining in the first half.

Lowell ended the first half on a 16-4 run as they took a six-point lead into halftime, 33-27.

Tynes led all Black Bears with seven points. He also had two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Ja'Shonté Wright-McLeish (6) and
AJ Lopez (5) rounded out the top-three scorers for Maine in the first half.

Both sides came out of the locker rooms trading buckets before UMass Lowell started to pull away as they pushed the lead to 11 points at the second media timeout.

UMass Lowell got out to a 17-point lead before the Black Bears went on an 8-0 run heading into the final media timeout of the second half.

Maine's comeback effort came up short as they fell at UMass Lowell, 76-62.

Tynes finished with 16 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Lopez and
Quion Burns both finished with 13 points off the bench.

Maine (10-12, 2-5 AE) returns to Orono on Saturday, Feb. 3 as they host Bryant. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 P.M. and will be Maine's Spread Respect Game.
