Orono, ME - The University of Maine men's basketball program was defeated on Sunday afternoon in Orono, 59-56 by the Terriers of Boston University.
Maine locked down Boston University in the opening half as they allowed only 19 points in the half as they took a 27-19 lead into halftime.
Kellen Tynes and
Christopher Mantis both had 9 points to lead all scorers in the first half. Tynes added 3 steals and a block on the defensive end of the floor and he scored his 1000th career point as a Black Bear as he entered the contest at 993 points for Maine and 1,110 for his career.
After Maine pushed their lead to a game-high 11 points on a three-pointer from
Quion Burns, Boston University started to slowly chip away as retook the lead with 5:36 remaining in the contest.
The two sides began a back-and-forth battle across the final 5 minutes of action, with Boston University coming out ahead in the end as they took the game by three at 59-56.
Tynes ended with a game-high 17 points, 4 assists, 3 steals a block.
Mantis ended with 12 points as he connected on four three-pointers in the contest.
Jaden Clayton ended with a team-high 5 rebounds, along with 4 points, 3 assists and 2 steals.
Maine (8-7) wrapped up non-conference action with their first winning record in non-conference games since the 2010-11 season. The Black Bears begin conference play on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Bryant. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 PM.
