Providence, RI - The University of Maine men's basketball team defeated Brown in a back-and-forth contest on Sunday afternoon, 69-67.
After falling behind early 7-2, the Black Bears scored six-straight points to begin a back-and-forth battle of the scoreboard as neither side got more than a four-point advantage until 9:40 remaining in the opening half when Maine increased the lead to five points.
Maine never relinquished the lead in the first half as Brown tied up the contest on three separate occasions as the Black Bears took a 33-29 lead into halftime.
Jaden Clayton was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field as he had a team-high 8 points, 3 assists and 4 rebounds.
AJ Lopez (6) and Christopher Mantis (5) rounded out the top-three scorers for the Black Bears in the first half. Maine shot over 50% from the field in the opening half.
Brown briefly retook the lead in the second half before the Black Bears jumped back in front and grabbed a six-point lead at the first media timeout.
Maine held their lead until the 7:36 mark in the second half when Brown grabbed it back on a three-pointer.
The back-and-forth battle lasted throughout the rest of the second half as Maine pulled ahead on a pair of free throws by Kellen Tynes with 21 seconds remaining to pick up the 69-67 victory.
Clayton finished with a game-high 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field.
Lopez finished with 16 points and a block while Kellen Tynes finished with 12 points and 3 steals.
Maine (2-1) remains on the road as they travel to Quinnipiac on Friday, Nov. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 P.M.
