Seven former Black Bears competing professionally overseas

ORONO, Maine – Seven former members of the University of Maine women's basketball team are currently competing at the professional level overseas.

 

Anne Simon (2019-24) is currently in her first season competing for San Martino di Lupari(Italy). Prior to the season, Simon competed for one month at national team camp where she played in a pair of games against Croatia. 

 

Blanca Millan (2016-21) is in her fourth season of professional basketball and is currently a member of Baxi Ferrol (Spain). After rehabbing from a knee injury, Millan returned to the court in December of '23 and competed for half of the season through April. Over the summer, Millan had the opportunity to compete in the Quai54 5x5 tournament in Paris on a court that was setup outside under the Eiffel Tower. 

 

Chantel Charles (2012-16) has been playing professionally overseas for nine seasons and is currently serving as a member of CSM Targoviste (Romania). This summer, she took first place in the 1-on-1 tournament hosted by Clapham Common Basketball in London. Charles has also dabbled in coaching as she worked on staff with a competitive youth team.

 

Dor Saar (2017-21) is in her third season and currently playing with Maccabi Bnot Ashdod (Israel). Over the summer, Saar had the honor of playing for Israel's 3x3 national team.

 

Mikaela Gustaffson (2012-16) is, along with Charles, in her ninth season of professional competition and currently holds a roster spot with SBBK in her native Sodertalje, Sweden. Over the summer, she played in several 3x3 tournament throughout Sweden and helped guide one of her teams to a second place finish in the Swedish championship. The highlight of her summer came when she played in the women's series in Saaskatoon, Canada where she played against national teams from all over the world, including the Canadian 3x3 Olympic team.

 

Sigi Koizar (2013-17), who was recently inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame, is currently awaiting her next contract to begin her seventh year playing professional. Over the summer, she played in many 3x3 tournaments with the Barcelona Panthers.

Fanny Wadling (2016-21) is currently in her fourth season professionally where she's a member of Lulea Basket (Sweden). Over the summer, Wadling played for the National Team camp in preparation for Eurobasket qualifiers which take place in November.
