ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team earned a 2-1 America East win over UMBC on Sunday afternoon at Retriever Soccer Park.

Kristina Kelly opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a long-distance strike. After
Rebecca Grisdale fed her the ball 20 yards out from goal, Kelly struck a right-footed shot through traffic and inside the left post. The Retrievers responded 63 seconds later for a 1-1 game.

In the waning seconds of the first half,
Tegan Morrison got off a corner kick with 15 seconds to play. The service bounced in the box before
Julie Lossius stepped into a shot that deflected off of
Abbey Thornton's foot and in for the 2-1 lead.

Maine's defense held strong in the second half – giving up just two shot attempts – and the Black Bears earned the 2-1 win.

- Maine had the 17-5 lead in shots and a 6-1 lead in shots on goal.
- The Black Bears earned five corner kicks while giving up none.
- Kristina Kelly scored her third goal of the season.
- Abbey Thornton scored her second goal of the season … it was her first career game-winning goal.

- Maine has now won seven consecutive games for the first time since 2006 ... this is Maine's first five-game conference winning streak since 2004.
- The Black Bears are the first America East team to start conference play with five consecutive wins since Boston University and Hartford both did it in 2012.
- This marks the first seven-game winning streak by an America East team since 2021.
- The Black Bears are now 14-6-2 in the all-time series with UMBC.
